Our friend Rosie

Oh Rosie, like all your family and friends we are so going to miss you. We are heartbroken to think that we will never see you again but we have lots of memories of the times we have shared.
You and I go back a long way Rosie, we both started work at M&S in the late 60s and we now look back on those years as the Golden Age of retail. Over those years we both worked in various roles within the store, sales floor, supervision, administration, stockroom and in your case Rosie the new M&S Cafe which you loved because you loved people. You loved the interaction with your customers. Eventually after 36 years of service we both decided to take early retirement and move onto a new challenge.
Tom and I have been good friends with you and Ray for many years and in that time you never failed to make us laugh.
Picture this: One January we were at a hotel getting ready for the annual Dinner Dance and the fire alarm went off. Sarah knocked on your door to tell you to get to the car park at once, or words to that effect. Unfortunately, Ray had nipped out and you were in the bath. You arrived in the dark car park in a towel, a short raincoat and a pair of shoes and teeth chattering! Ray turned up just as the Fire Brigade arrived.
On another occasion we attended a Murder Mystery Evening at a hotel, each actor had to play several roles and we the audience had to guess “Whodunnit”The room was very quiet, you could hear a pin drop, everyone was concentrating, then you shouted out “It’s the same man!” Everyone collapsed with laughter, Rosie strikes again. It may not sound so funny now, I guess you had to be there.
So many happy memories; New Years Eve when along with Marilyn and Sid we’d play silly miming games but you always had great difficulty trying not to make a sound. Instead you would be full of “mmmmmm mmmm mm” sounds accompanied by hand signals, hilarious.
You were a great fan of “Sounds of the 60s” on Radio 2, you even had a dedication once, Gene Pitney your favourite. Don’t forget to look him up when you’re up there.
We love you Rosie. You will always be remembered with love, affection and with a smile.
Thank you for being our friend. Sue and Tom
